Why would my cat need a behaviour consultation?
Behaviour problems are one of the most common reasons cats are surrendered to rescue organisations, yet many can be successfully managed or resolved with the right support.
At The Plymouth Cat Clinic, our feline behaviour consultations are led by Frankie, a Registered Veterinary Nurse with advanced qualifications in feline behaviour, nursing and welfare. Every consultation is designed to understand why your cat is behaving the way they are before creating a personalised treatment plan tailored to both your cat and your family.
Whether your cat has suddenly started toileting outside the litter tray, is showing signs of anxiety, is struggling to get along with another pet, or is displaying unwanted behaviours around the home, we’re here to help.
Our behaviour consultations
Behaviour consultations are carried out by Francesca Lees BSc (Hons) NCert(AnBeh) ISFMCertFN RVN , an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse with a special interest in feline behaviour and welfare.
Francesca’s qualifications include:
* Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
* BSc (Hons) Applied Animal Behaviour
* ISVPS Nurse Certificate in Animal Behaviour (NCert AnBeh)
* ISFM Certificate in Feline Nursing
* Animal Training Instructor (ATI) with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC)
* Fear Free Certified Professional
* Currently studying a PGCert in Animal Behaviour and Welfare
Working within a feline-only practice allows Francesca to combine behavioural knowledge with an understanding of feline medicine, ensuring every behaviour concern is approached from both a medical and emotional wellbeing perspective. Where appropriate, she works closely with our veterinary surgeons to investigate and treat any underlying medical conditions that may be contributing to your cat’s behaviour.
What happens during a behaviour consultation?
Every cat is unique, so every consultation is tailored to their individual needs.
During the consultation we’ll discuss:
* Your cat’s medical history
* Daily routine and lifestyle
* Home environment
* Diet and enrichment
* Relationships with people and other pets
* The behaviour itself and any possible triggers
Following your appointment, you’ll receive a personalised summary of the consultation with practical, realistic recommendations to help your cat feel safer, happier and more confident.
Behaviour change takes time, so follow-up consultations are available to monitor progress and adjust the plan as needed.

Francesca’s special interests include: behaviour issues in multicat households, indoor cats, senior cats and wild cat hybrids such as Bengals and Savannah Cats.
Our approach
We use modern, evidence-based, force-free behaviour techniques that prioritise your cat’s emotional welfare.
There are no quick fixes or punishment-based methods. Instead, we focus on understanding the underlying cause of the behaviour and creating practical, achievable solutions that strengthen the relationship between you and your cat.
Costs
The cost for an extended nurse behaviour consultation with Frankie is £110. The consultation lasts for 40 minutes.
